Tracks

  • The learner must prepare three tracks from the six contained inside the grade book.

The musical journey continues with modern elements of Alternative Rock. Pick up on the smooth grooves of Latin Soul and deliver those heart-wrenching lines of a slow Blues. Country Pop will greet you at the break of day before finally linking the chain full circle back to Rock.

Technical Skills

  • The learner must prepare all scales and triads contained in group A and group B of the grade book

Fundamental to any player is the use of scales and arpeggios. Start to develop the Blues and Minor Pentatonic scales. Learn major and minor triads in new positions as well as revising the old.
Lead Solo performance

  • The learner must prepare the two solo lead performances in the styles of Rock and Blues contained inside the grade book

Slide, Pull, Hammer and Vibrato are all words that will become familiar to you. Just pick two of these techniques to make your solos come alive.

Recognition by Listening

  • The learner will be asked two listening recognition questions:
  • Question One. Identify and play a scale.
  • Question Two. Clap back a one bar rhythm consisting of minims, crotchets and quavers.

Develop your listening skills and rhythm in the last section of the examination. Recognise the scale and play it back, then finally clap back a rhythm correctly to top up your marks

Theory Questions

  • The learner must answer four theory questions. Two questions relating to left and right hand technique and two questions relating to notation. All questions will be drawn from page sixteen of the grade book.
